Knife FAQs
What is a bowie knife?
The term bowie knife is used to refer to a heavy sheath knife with
a clip point. This means that the back of the knife curves down either
concavely or in a straight line to the tip. Its historical style was
popularized by Colonel James "Jim" Bowie in the 1800s.
What is a drop point?
A drop point on a knife blade has a convex curve to the spine. This
is in contrast to the concave shape depicted by a clip point.
What are the scales of a knife?
These are the two portions of handle material. They are generally created
from wood, plastic, or a composite material and are riveted to the tang.
(The tang is the portion of the knife's metal that extends into the
handle.)
